Stainless Steel Recycling
As a business owner or manager, you likely end up disposing of various items that have the potential to be recycled for extra cash. Construction, automotive, restaurant, and medical businesses, in particular, often end up with stainless steel equipment and parts that eventually reach the end of their lifespan. Rather than tossing them in the trash, stainless steel recycling will give you cash back and minimize your environmental footprint.
What Items are Available for Stainless Steel Recycling?
Stainless steel items encompass a wide range of products across both the business and household sectors. To give you an idea of some items available for stainless steel recycling, we’ve compiled this list:
- Scrap metal for industrial equipment, including tanks, valves, pipes, and tools.
- Scrap construction materials, like siding, beams, mesh, or hardware
- Used automotive parts like exhaust components
- Used medical equipment like surgical tools and even hip or knee implants
- Used restaurant equipment like pots, pans, utensils, and some appliances.
If you aren’t sure whether the item you want to recycle is acceptable, check out our FAQ for the items we accept.
How to Prep Stainless Steel Recycling
When preparing stainless steel for recycling, there are several steps you can take to maximize your return on investment. Here is what we suggest you do:
Step 1: Remove any Non-Metal Parts
Plastics, rubber fittings, coatings, paints, and bonded metals all decrease the value of your stainless steel because they must be removed before processing can occur. If you have the time and want to maximize your profit, separating out any non-metal pieces is beneficial.
Step 2: Clean Grime Away
In addition to removing non-metal parts, you want to make sure that your stainless steel recycling is clean from grease, oil, dirt, dust, or food residues. We recommend using solvents and degreasers to thoroughly clean your metals, enabling you to obtain the best rate for your scrap.
Step 3: Prep for Transport
When preparing to take your stainless steel to a recycling center, make sure it is securely bundled. Many items have small wires or parts that can become a severe safety hazard if they come loose during transport. Therefore, we suggest placing everything in a secure tote or a covered vehicle.
